Andrea focuses the lens for the first time on her mother, Gloria Torrice. Gloria was one of several women artists who helped define the Abstract Expressionist movement in New York City in the 1940’s and 50’s. While Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning are household names, this film will celebrate and focus on Gloria and other women who also made a contribution to this movement which revolutionized American Art.
“All the old and conservative ideas from Europe did not ring true anymore. All form had to be destroyed. It was starting out with a raw canvas and saying, ‘what is the way to go?’ Then you start putting a stroke on the canvas… action. The action of the body, rather than a preconceived idea. It was tremendously exciting.” -Gloria Torrice
